“Off With Their Heads” (Universal/Motown): B-

Last year, these indie rockers from Leeds, England, had the UK’s best-selling LP with “Yours Truly, Angry Mob.” Such success allowed frontman Ricky Wilson and crew to recruit 2008 producer of the year Mark Ronson to helm their third album. Is this as good as their terrific first two CDs? Nah nah nah nah nah; but this is an admirably ambitious misstep. The band’s Arctic Monkeys/retro Britpop sound has been replaced by a jittery XTC/Futureheads fusion, never more obvious than in the psychedelic “Tomato in the Rain” and “Half the Truth” (featuring an annoying rap vocal by Sway).
